Downunder Literature

Hi, I’m Michelle, a homeschool mum of 4 children. My oldest is 12 and my youngest is 6. Our family has been homeschooling for over seven years.

As a home schooling mother I saw a great lack of Australian material for homeschoolers. Many of the great books and homeschool resources I wanted to use, and recommend to friends, were out-of-print. I wanted some specifically Australian teaching resources for my children. I knew this was the catch-cry of many other Australian Home Educators and their families.

So, in 2006, Downunder Literature began as a homeschool publisher and home school resource provider. Since then we have been working hard to put together a great range of home education resources, helpful literature and homeschool curriculum that will delight your children and you.

Whilst we have some excellent homeschool resources for sale we want to be more than just a homeschool supplier. We want to serve homeschoolers, teachers and parents by giving them access to distinctly Australian and New Zealand books and resource materials. On this site you will find original products for sale and free educational resources. All our products can be found on our product list and resource index.

English in the Homeschool: Our Language arts products are perfect for homeschooling. The copy work and dictation resources use Australian and New Zealand Literature. We have also provided ideas to help incorporate Australian grammar, punctuation and spelling into your language arts. See our latest resource Primary Language Lessons.

Science in the Homeschool: Nature journaling is a delightful way to bring Australian science into the homeschool. We are extremely proud to offer to you the CBCA award winning updated edition of The Wonderland of Nature with an accompanied resource The Wonderland of Nature Journal.  We also have the inspirational A Bush Calender by Amy Mack and a children’s picture book about bush fires called Crowns of Fire and Nature Talks with New Zealanders.

Australian History in the Homeschool: When I was asked by other parents what I would recommend for teaching Australian history, I would unequivocally recommend Our Sunburnt Country, with the additional apology that it was out of print. This year we have been able to rectify this problem with a new edition that has been updated to 2008.

Free Australian homeschooling resources: We have begun a collection of free nature stories, book lists, nature activities, maps and timelines. The best place to find these is in our index.
